I am a PhD candidate in Biology.

2. How did you feel about math when you were in school?
I always really liked math and science when I was in junior high and high school. I didn't take a lot of math in college.

3. How do you feel about it now?
I still like math though I wish I knew some things better -- like calculus.

4. How long do you have to go to school to get your degree for this kind of job?
My program takes 4 to 6 years to complete. Then people usually go on to do postdoctoral work for another 2 to 4 years.

5. If so, what kind of math classes do you take?
I took a year of statistics. 6-7. What kind of math is in your job?
How do you use math in your job?
Biologists use statistics all the time to analyze data and determine the significance of effects in their experiments.

8. How do you use technology in your job?
We use computers on a daily basis. Computers allow us to analyze large amounts of data quickly and accurately. Many people also use high-tech machines for molecular analyses.

9. Do you have any fun hobbies we could include?
I enjoy hiking, bird-watching and cross-country skiing.
